Hey Seattle! I'm Jake Garcia, the newest member of the KING 5 sports team. I'm a reporter and storyteller and started in May of 2022.

I've spent the past three years in Austin, Texas, at KVUE, where I was a weekend news anchor and sports and culture reporter. I started my local news career in Medford, Oregon, as a sports reporter and sports anchor.

I'm excited to return to the Pacific Northwest and to the West Coast in general, as I'm now closer to family in Oregon and California. I've long viewed KING 5 as the gold standard for local television, and I'm excited to work with and learn from some of the most talented journalists in the country.

I'm a baseball person at heart, so getting the chance to cover the Mariners, and work within walking distance of T-Mobile Park, is a dream come true. I'm excited to tell stories that connect communities, provoke change and show the intersection between sports, society, race, gender and culture.

I grew up in central California in a town called Turlock. My two siblings and I are fluent in Spanish and have been since third grade. Both of my parents are educators - my mom is a Spanish teacher at the high school I attended, and my dad is a social work professor at Cal State Stanislaus. I graduated from Arizona State University in 2017 with a bachelor's in journalism and a master's in mass communication.

I love the outdoors and I'm excited to reconnect with all the hiking and snowboarding I've missed out on while living in Texas. I'm a pretty good golfer, though not as good as my sister who played college golf. I've run 10 half marathons, one full marathon and hope to one day qualify for the Boston Marathon.
