Hello Seattle and western Washington, my name is Brady Wakayama and I am thrilled to be back home working for the Home Team and serving the community that I love! I am truly honored to be a multi-skilled journalist and reporter at KING 5 since November 2021.
I grew up watching the iconic yellow jackets on my living room TV every night and hope to carry on KING 5’s journalism excellence and integrity. Seattle is my home, graduating from Ballard High School and earning my bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism from Washington State University’s Edward R. Murrow College of Communication (Go Cougs!).
Since graduating from WSU, I was fortunate to report for TV stations in Eugene, Oregon (KEZI) and Albuquerque, New Mexico (KRQE), covering a wide spectrum of stories ranging from the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta and Eugene Marathon to leading those stations’ breaking news coverages of the deadliest hot air balloon crash in New Mexico history and severe weather in Oregon.
My passion for journalism and storytelling sparked while serving the Seattle and greater King County communities through various local nonprofit organizations that include the Seattle Foundation, United Way of King County, the Wing Luke Asian Museum, and Asian Counseling and Referral Services. I plan to continue serving those wonderful organizations and the communities that they support and serve. I am also an active member of the Asian American Journalists Association (AAJA). I am proud to foster their mission of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) representation and perspectives within the news industry.
