SEATTLE — A timeless holiday film finds new life on stage at the Fifth Avenue Theatre. "Irving Berlin's White Christmas" features an all-star Broadway cast joyfully singing and dancing their way through the American classic.
Lead actor Phillip Attmore plays Phil Davis, one of the stars of the show within the show.
"There's a lot of nods to the film," Attmore said. "There's some differences, as well, on the stage show."
Attmore first slipped on a pair of tap shoes at the age of three. He considers himself and the art of tap, with its origins in the Black community, as part of a rich cultural legacy.
"The contribution and origination of African American artists shaped musical theater. It is not just African American history but all of our history," Attmore said.
Tap is an art form that takes years to master, but for which almost everyone is born with the basic tools.
"Everybody has the same instruments. We have the bottom of our feet, the heel, and the toe."
"Irving Berlin's White Christmas" is playing at the Fifth Avenue Theatre through Christmas Eve, December 24.
