Evening Raves: 'The Holdovers,' Steven Shpreyregin and 'Producing The Beatles'

Evening hosts share what they are currently obsessed with from movies to local sports to podcasts. #k5evening

SEATTLE —

Saint

My rave is for "The Holdovers"-- a movie about a cranky boarding school teacher played by Paul Giamatti who has to watch over a troubled student with no where to go.

I was a troubled boarding school student who got to see this with one of my classmates, another troubled boarding school student, and it kind of cast a spell on us.

It's funny and emotional and heartbreaking and it's now available on video on demand.

Kim

I want to rave about Steven Shpreyregin.

I featured him in 2009 when he was 12-year-olds and volunteering as a rec league basketball coach. We followed up with him in 2020, when he was still pursuing his hoops dream by working as a graduate assistant at Seattle University.

I have a new update: Steven was just named assistant coach for the Seattle U basketball team! He's now officially a professional basketball coach.

I can't wait for our next follow-up, when he achieves his ultimate dream of coaching in the NBA.

Jim

I'm going to rave about a podcast called "Producing The Beatles"

This goes WAY in depth. They take the songs and pull them apart. They use some AI to isolate the instruments and they conjecture about "how was this baseline created?" and "How was this drum played?" I mean it's really geeky but if you love The Beatles you'll love "Producing The Beatles."
